Literature Text

They say a little bit of faith can move a mountain,
That music can tame the savage beast,
But what if the mountain is that savage beast?
And that mountain has swallowed up what little faith you have?

Don’t look to the world for pity,
For pity though beautiful in theory, stance and poise,
It is for the young, the weak, the crippled and the lazy,
For pity only belongs to those who cannot help themselves,
And if you intend to be a man or woman and stand on your own two feet in this world,
Then don’t let pity or charity ever cross your mind,
For pity is only for the weak and should always be given in charity,
It should never be received with pride.

They say that the best food ever made,
They say the best job ever done,
They say the most satisfying action that one could see, do, or taste,
Is that act done by your own hands, at your own pace, by your own will,
With all your heart and spirit put behind it.

This is the source of the achievements of all great people,
People with passion like Garvey,
People with heart like Christ,
People with a dream like Dr. King,
People who know that in order to pursue that dream,
We must and will do anything necessary, by any means necessary,
Just as brother Malcolm did in order for independence of the body to be a reality.

Confidence belongs to those who are willing to fight for what they believe in,
To seek out what others would say is ludicrous,
To help people see what could not be seen in there own bias or ignorance.

Confidence is the back bone of attraction in just about every species known to man,
And the only thing in this world that helps a grown man to be a grown man,
But also helps a man lacking courage to rise like a roaring lion and collect his due…his respect…his honor…his everything in life.

Very well written! I think that pity and charity have their place in the world, but you are right, they shouldn't be sought out. Independence is a great thing indeed. I don't want to ever be living on welfare, or anything like that. I want to make something of myself.

Again, nicely written! I am impressed!
